How to prepare matcha at home: a guide to the tea ritual

Matcha: much more than a tea
Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder made by finely grinding the leaves. You drink it whole, which is why it is rich in antioxidants and provides calm, sustained energy.
But above all, it is a ritual that brings you back to the present. The heart of the Yurari philosophy: slow down, gently.
What you need
- Matcha powder (ceremonial grade)
- Chawan, the bowl
- Chasen, the bamboo whisk
- Chashaku, the measuring spoon
- Hot, but not boiling, water (70-80°C)
How to prepare matcha, step by step
1. Sift
Pour about 2g of matcha into the bowl, sifting it to avoid lumps.
2. Add water
About 70ml at 70-80°C. Water that is too hot makes the matcha bitter.
3. Whisk in a W shape
With the whisk, move rapidly in a W shape for 15-20 seconds, until a velvety foam forms.
4. Savor slowly
Drink immediately, in small sips. It's your moment.
3 common mistakes to avoid
- Boiling water → bitter taste
- Not sifting → lumps
- Whisking in circles → little foam (move in a W)
